2 actors, 4 actresses (theatrical performance), 2 ballet dancers (movement performance), 1 tap dancer, 1 opera singer (musical performance), 1 “performance artist” (non-theatrical performance), 3 directors (performance framers), 3 filmmakers (performance authors), and 1 film producer.

1 composer, 1 lyricist (not quite a composer), 3 musicans (more than lyricist, less than composer), 1 non-opera singer (musical performance artist), 1 drummer, and 1 rapper.

So, the Times pulls one short quote from each obituary, the metonym of each memorial, as if the pithy moment captures something essential because to be a noted artist is to have exemplified what’s essential.

Essential is being well that preludes the proteanity of creativity which leads to the artwork of the Work of art being in and for one’s time.

in and for one’s time: Reaching the mountaintop is no completion, because we want
to appropriate ourselves well in performance, being called down to the hills and other landscapes.

Yet, can that become lasting beyond one’s time? A steep quest is made to keep
a vista of hope about the question.
